My name is Maria Crompton and I’m the owner of Fit For Life, located in University City, La Jolla. As a Master La Jolla Personal Trainer and Resistance Stretching Practitioner I’ve had a lifelong passion for fitness and good health.

I have been working out with Maria since Jan 2007. I swim, run and bike on a regular basis and the addition of weekly core strength workouts has taken my fitness to the next level. I have always been active and participated in sports I run, swim, lift weights, practice yoga and eat a healthy diet. So why do I need a personal trainer?
I needed a personal trainer because I was bored with my weight lifting routine. I did the same exercise circuits two times a week, yet I wasn’t seeing any change in my body. I was 45 years old, losing muscle mass and diagnosed with Osteoporosis, weight lifting was not an option for me, it was MANDATORY.
I knew Maria from the Master’s swim program. Several fellow swimmers were training with Maria and spoke very highly of her, so I decided to give her a try. What a gift she is!! Not only did I get an extremely qualified and knowledgeable trainer, but a nutrition adviser, health advocate, motivator and a masher!
I’ve trained with Maria since 2009 and I am so happy to see the results I was looking for, feeling so much stronger, leaner and healthier. She has made my workouts exciting, varied, and challenging. We maximize our time very efficiently getting in plenty of great exercises that I enjoy. She educates me about my body while I am working out resulting in increased proprioception and body awareness. It’s been six months since I began resistance stretching and strength training with Maria. I was diagnosed with a herniated disk in 2003. At first I was skeptical of ever fully recovering from my back injury with the many modalities I have tried without any success. Initially, I was very nervous, but Maria made me feel extremely comfortable and always emphasized gradual progression, which really prevented me from re injuring myself.
It was the simple day to day tasks that I was unable to do that I took for granted…..things like getting dressed, picking things up off the floor, and even just tying my shoes. Playing with my granddaughters used to be such a chore too. Maria has helped me not only improve my daily activities, but she has given me the freedom to move again pain free!! She has helped me become an overall healthier and much happier and more confident individual, and for that I am so thankful. I’m so excited about my strength advancements thus far a well. I am a lot stronger physically and mentally.
It was surprising to me how challenging each session was, talk about muscles on fire and boy did it feel good!! Maria makes each workout a challenge and I like that. Maria has been my personal trainer for five years; she’s “put me through the paces” three to four days a week. Prior to starting with her, my exercise routine included swimming and golf, but no weight-bearing exercise to speak of.
The most immediate result of the added training was a loss of 10 pounds without changing my diet. And Maria’s emphasis on my core strength and flexibility resolved my periodic lower back problems, and has given me substantially more power in my golf swing. Maria has provided me with the inspiration and discipline I needed to incorporate additional physical training into my exercise regimen.
